Alumni Update - Brian Vukela (West Virgnia Wesleyan)
West Virginia Wesleyan senior defensive end Brian Vukela was honored as a Capital One Academic All-District 1 first-team selection in NCAA Division II football.Individuals are selected based on their academic and athletic accomplishments and voted on by the College Sports Information Directors of America. To be eligible, players must have spent more than one season at the institution, participated in 50 percent of the team's games and have a cumulative grade-point average higher than 3.30.
Vukela, a Bethel Park High School graduate, has amassed 57 tackles on the season. He has registered 8.5 sacks and 23 for loss, which is second in Division II.
Vukela has also forced a fumble, recovered three and has an interception. He has returned a fumble and the interception for a touchdown.
He has a 3.34 grade-point average in elementary education.
As first team Academic All-District selection, Vukela advances for consideration for Academic All-America honors.
The 2012 CoSIDA/Capital One Academic All-District One Football Team encompasses all student-athletes from NCAA Division II Super Region One member conferences (West Virginia Conference, Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference, Central Intercollegiate Athletic Association and the Northeast-10).
