Bethel Park girls lacrosse team has plenty of motivation for 2013

Bethel Park High girls lacrosse coach Becky Luzier has put together a program that has turned things around since the 2008 season when the Black Hawks had a 0-13 record.

Luzier's first year in 2009 yielded a 6-10 record. The 2010 and 2011 teams had records of 10-7 and 14-5, respectively, and the 2011 team reached the semifinals before falling to eventual WPIAL champion North Hills by a 13-7 score.

So, after an opening game 12-10 victory over Chartiers Valley, emotions were really high as the team then reeled off eight more victories to enter the rematch with the Colts sporting a 9-0 record.

Chartiers Valley, however, exacted some revenge and earned a 12-5 victory over Bethel Park. The Black Hawks then put together an eight-game winning streak that took them all the way to the WPIAL Division 2 semifinals, where they would meet Chartiers Valley yet again.

And this game would leave the same bitter sting as the second regular-season game as the Colts ended the Black Hawks' season with an 18-10 triumph.

Thus, Bethel Park ended the year with a 17-2 record. Expect Luzier to have another club ready to contend in 2013.
