Bentworth-California figures to be heavyweight baseball game

A pair of teams having outstanding seasons meet today when No. 3 Bentworth (17-1) squares off against No. 2 California (18-0) in a WPIAL Class A semifinal game at Washington & Jefferson College at 7:30 p.m.
The only thing keeping Bentworth from a perfect season was a shocking 6-5 loss at Clairton. Since then, the Bearcats have won four games in a row, outscoring their opponents, 45-3.
California, on the other hand, has been perfect. The Trojans have won each of their past 14 games by at least five runs. They own seven shutouts and have allowed more than four runs just twice.
Highlighting the matchup is a top-notch pitching pairing between Bentworth’s Tyler Delval and California’s T.D. Conway. Delval is 8-0 and pitched five-inning, complete-game three-hitter in a 10-0 quarterfinal win against Vincentian. Conway is a WPIAL-best 12-0 and fired a two-hitter with 16 strikeouts in a 7-2 victory against Western Beaver in the quarterfinals.
