Bentworth baseball team hungry for big things

Written by Brad Everett on .

In what might just be the most successful season in school history, the Bentworth baseball team have their eyes fixated on a playoff berth and section title.

But despite being 13-0 overall (9-0 in Class A Section 2), coach Dion Jansante said that getting to where this team wants to be is not an easy assignment.

“From our perspective, we have a long way to go,” Jansante said. “We still have a lot of big games to go. We’re not looking at the end result right now. We’re just looking at them one at a time. It’s nice to be in that contention for the postseason at this stage.”

Bentworth plays four games in the next nine days to close out the regular season, beginning with a contest at Clairton this afternoon. Should the Bearcats win any of their three remaining section games, they’ll win the section title.

The Bentworth pitching staff has been terrific this season. No team has scored more than five runs against the Bearcats. With so many important games coming up, getting solid efforts from their starting staff will be key.

“I have three guys in (senior) Tyler Delval, (senior) Nick Smydo and (senior) Tyler Kurutz,” said Jansante. “We’re confident in each.”
