Bentworth's Lynch heading to Hershey for boys' tennis singles tourney after coming close last season

Written by Ryan Riordan on .

In 2012, Matt Lynch was one match away from reaching the PIAA Class AA singles tournament.

But Lynch, who is homeschooled but plays tennis for Bentworth, lost to Hampton’s Brad Cisek in the WPIAL Class AA consolation match and didn’t qualify for the state tournament.

This season, Lynch was in a similar position, but he won his consolation match against Greensburg Central Catholic’s Bargo Patel to snag the final state tournament berth.

Bentworth's Lynch earns PIAA berth in singles

Written by Ryan Riordan on .

Ryan Riordan's feature on Bentworth tennis' Matt Lynch:

"Matt Lynch's schedule is different from most high school tennis players.

Lynch may practice in the morning, afternoon or evening. It largely depends on the schedule of Mike Lynch, his father and coach.

Matt Lynch's schedule is so flexible because unlike most of his opponents who go to school the same hours each day, he is home-schooled.

"It's nice being home-schooled because it gives me that freedom to go out for a few hours and hit and I can come back and work on my schooling into the night," Matt Lynch said. "I wouldn't have it any other way.""
