After losing its season-opener 7-0 at Latrobe, Belle Vernon has ripped off seven consecutive wins including one-run decisions against McKeesport and Greensburg Salem.

The Leopards have also won in blowout fashion, 17-0 at Laurel Highlands and 10-1 over Waynesburg Central.

Belle Vernon opened section play with a 4-1 win at home against West Mifflin.

Belle Vernon is led by senior pitcher Haley Bashada who went 14-4 with a 1.50 ERA last season. Haley’s younger sister, junior Natalie Bashada can also pitch and play shortstop. She hit .321 last season.

Other returning starters with their 2011 batting averages are senior second baseman Courtney Seman (.411), junior first baseman/pitcher Deanna Hileman (.542), junior catcher Molly Gauden (.414), senior center fielder Samantha Peer (.162) and sophomore third baseman Alexis Ellin (.290).

Now in his 11th year at Belle Vernon, coach Tom Rodriguez sees Thomas Jefferson as the section favorite with South Park, Elizabeth Forward and his team in contention for the other two remaining playoff spots.
