"From the time she was in middle school, the onus of becoming the next great Beaver Area High School track and field standout was bestowed onto Aubrey Hutchinson.

After all, her lineage was filled with athletes who to this day still hold track records at the school, including Hutchinson's mother, who was once a 400-meter star.

"Everybody looked at her as being the next generation Hutchinson to break that record," said Beaver coach Julie Brauch.

But for two-and-a-half years of Hutchinson's high school career, expectations of mastering her mother's event ultimately drew her away from the 400.

"Everyone just expected me to [break the record,]," said Hutchinson. "I dreaded the race more than I enjoyed it. I love running. I love track. But in order to be happy, I needed to change.""
