Joe Koch's feature on the Avonworth boys' basketball team:
"No one can say Avonworth High School's boys basketball season has been dull.
A number of the WPIAL Class AA team's games have been decided in the last quarter with four of the Antelopes' 13 victories won by nine or fewer points, including a one-point thriller against Chartiers-Houston, 48-47, and three-point wins against Freedom, 63-60, and Sto-Rox, 45-42.
The Antelopes (13-9, 8-4) concluded their regular season with a 65-52 non-section victory against Shady Side Academy Monday and qualified for the WPIAL playoffs by finishing third in Class AA Section 6."

Most figured Quaker Valley or Sto-Rox would hold down the Class AA Section 6 lead at this point in the season.
Instead, Avonworth has raced to the top.
After a 4-6 start, Avonworth has won seven games in a row – five in the section – and find themselves 11-6 overall and 7-2 in the section.
Sophomore forward Mitch Locher, an Avonworth graduate, scored a career-best 14 points to help the Washington & Jefferson College men’s basketball team to a 70-65 home victory over Geneva last Wednesday.
Locher drained 5-of-7 shots from the field and added four free throws during 21 minutes of action. He also grabbed six rebounds and dished out a pair of assists.
The double-figure scoring effort was Locher’s third of the season. He netted 11 points against Penn State-DuBois on Jan. 5 and 10 against Muskingum on Nov. 24.
