Boys Swimming: West Season Preview
Riverside senior Alexander Szakelyhidi and Beaver Area senior Cameron Clerici headline the returning boys’ class in the West Zone. Szakelyhidi holds most pool records around Beaver County in distance events. He won WPIAL gold last season in the 200 freestyle. Clerici is a sprinter. He won WPIAL gold in the 50 freestyle and 100 freestyle a year ago. With Clerici along with senior Bill Crumrine, the Bobcats could challenge for a few relay gold medals this season. Crumrine and Clerici finished second in the 200 and 400 freestyle relay last season but they will have to replace Jacob Weber and Asa Equels, two members of those relays who have graduated.
Indiana won the boys’ team title last season in Class AA with 222 points while Beaver Area finished in fifth with 167 points, Blackhawk took 12th with 79 points with Riverside right behind in 13th place with 70 points.
