Moon baseball team ends West Allegheny's season

Written by Sports Town on .

Going into the final day of the regular season, West Allegheny had a playoff spot in its sights. The Indians needed two things to happen. One was for Beaver to lose to first-place Blackhawk and, with a section title on the line, Blackhawk was well-motivated.

The other necessary step was for the Indians’ to defeat rival Moon Area at Moon and that proved to be West Allegheny’s undoing. Moon Area sent 16 batters to the plate in the second inning and as each batter stepped in, West Allegheny’s playoff chances slipped away.

Cole Koegel’s bases loaded double was the big blow in the 10-run second inning as the Tigers prevailed 12-1 in five inning. Two days later, the weather allowed the Beaver-Blackhawk game to be concluded and, much to West Allegheny’s chagrin, Blackhawk won.
