Weather the winner early in baseball playoffs
After probably the best weather of any spring sports season in years, Mother Nature stepped to the plate and showed its power.
The entire first day of playoffs for Beaver, Fort Cherry, Freedom, Our Lady of the Sacred Heart, Riverside, and Western Beaver was wiped out and pushed back to Tuesday.
Field conditions after a full day of rain could still affect Tuesday’s schedule but, at this point, the schedule is structured to finish the first two rounds this week. In recent years, the WPIAL has structured the playoffs to minimize the effect of the pitching rule so that teams’ top pitchers area available for the championship game. That situation would appear to be likely but the weather could be factor.
