Selected West track teams, and comments at the close of Section competition
All Section meets must be completed by April 27 (that’s Friday). Some of these meets still have yet to happen. Nonetheless, here are a few West teams to congratulate for their 2012 performances as Section competition concludes.
West Allegheny - the girls and boys were at the top of Section 8-AAA last week, but a loss to New Castle on Monday caused some changes. Nonetheless, the West Allegheny teams are formidable and playoff-ready.
Moon – the girls’ team finished second in Section 8-AAA and is playoff bound
Riverside – the boys captured the team championship at last Saturday’s Beaver County Track and Field Championships.
Beaver Area – Both the girls’ and boys’ teams have posted solid wins in section meets this season. Furthermore, the girls’ team captured their team championship at Saturday’s Beaver County Track and Field Championships. From the boys’ team Josef DiPietrantonio set meet records in the 1600- and the 3200-meter runs. He was also part of Beaver’s winning 3200 relay team. Lastly, DiPietrantonio ran with Beaver’s fourth-place 1600 meter relay team. He was named the track most valuable performer for the meet.
Freedom Area – has posted dominating wins by both the boys’ and girls’ teams all season. The Bulldogs even defeated both Beaver Area teams in close matches last week.
WPIAL team semi-finals are to take place this coming Wednesday (May 2nd). Sports Town will provide more information about participating teams and sites after those teams and sites have been finalized.
