Blackhawk, Ambridge girls basketball teams are rebuilding

Written by Joe Koch on .

At one point last season, Blackhawk won 19 of 20 games en route to the WPIAL Class AAA championship.

However, Blackhawk lost four starters and must rebuild around junior forward Alexis Graham, who averaged 16 points and nine rebounds a game a year ago. The Cougars got off to a good start, though, in their own tournament with a 62-27 victory over Mars last Friday night.

Blackhawk's opponent in the WPIAL championship game, Ambridge, could face some tough sledding this year, too. The Bridgers lost most of their team to graduation, but they do have Katie Fischer back this season.

The junior scored 32 points in the team's opener, a 57-53 loss to Hempfield in the Moon tournament.
