One South field hockey team reached playoffs
Three schools from the Sports Town's South region participate in field hockey, and one of them -- Peters Township -- advanced to the WPIAL Class AAA playoffs.
The Indians fell to Penn-Trafford, 3-2, in double-overtime in one semifinal. The other two teams in the South region, Mt. Lebanon and Upper St. Clair, were just one the outside looking in.
Both teams finished with 4-5-1 records. Upper St. Clair defeated the Blue Devils, 2-1, and in the section finale for both teams, the Panther and the Blue Devils played to a 1-1 tie.
Mt. Lebanon had some opportunities. In the four games, played against Fox Chapel and Peters Township, the Blue Devils fell by scores of 2-1 and 2-0 to Peters Township. They lost their games to Fox Chapel by the same margins.
It shapes up to be a competitive season in 2013 for Section 2 teams.
