Field Hockey: 2011 South Season Recap

Sports Town will review the 2011-12 school year during July. Today we are visiting the field hockey season.

If three teams could qualify for the WPIAL Class AAA field hockey tournament from each section, then  Peters Township would have been competing in the postseason. But the Indians, who finished with a section record of 6-4, were on the outside looking in. Woodland Hills took top honors in Class AAA's Section 2 with a 10-0 record, while Fox Chapel was second at 8-2.

Mt. Lebanon and Upper St. Clair were also among the outsiders with records of 3-7 and 0-10, respectively. No other teams from the South Hills compete in field hockey.

Peters Township senior goalie Mel Morgret earned All-WPIAL Class AAA honors as did Indians' senior midfielder Courtney Schratz. Junior midfielder Korey Smith was honored from Mt. Lebanon.
