Boys Cross Country: 2011 South Season Recap

Written by Cara DeCarlo on .

Class AAA

In Class AAA, Mt. Lebanon was the dominant team in South boys’ Class AAA cross country. The Blue Devils took second place in the WPIAL championship and edged the Central Catholic Vikings by seven points, 115-122.

Mt. Lebanon’s leader that day was Alex Moran. He ran the muddy Cooper’s Lake Course in 17:31, which was good for eighth place overall. But the 2011 Mt. Lebanon squad had kept a great pack. Lawton Tellin, Seamus Roddy and Patrick Quirk came in within the next 27 seconds. Kevin Tramaglini crossed the line at 18:21, keeping the one-thru-five differential at 50 seconds.

Although Mt. Lebanon was the only WPIAL Class AAA team to qualify for state competition, there were several individual runners who qualified. They were:

Andrew Kuchta (Baldwin), Thomas Bailey (Bethel Park), Jonathan Radolec (Peters Township)

Unsurprisingly, the skilled Blue Devils placed fourth in the state with Moran leading. His time was 16:25 and he achieved ninth place. The next four of the Mt. Lebanon pack came in within the next minute, and the Blue Devils missed third place by nine points (North Allegheny edged Mt. Lebanon 144-153).

In the individual race, Andrew Kuchta of Baldwin came in 29th in the Class AAA race with a time of 16:38.

Class AA

No WPIAL Class AA boys’ teams qualified to compete in the PIAA Championships as teams. However, the following individuals qualified:

Will Cusick (South Fayette), Ryan Lerda (South Fayette), Jalen Scott (Chartiers Houston).

Cusick came in at 17:46 for 69th place at the PIAA state meet.
