Boys Basketball: South Game of the Week - Thomas Jefferson at Keystone Oaks
First place in WPIAL Class AAA Section 4 will be on the line tonight when Keystone Oaks (8-1, 4-0) hosts Thomas Jefferson (4-6, 3-0).
Keystone Oaks has lost just once this season, a 75-65 defeat to North Catholic Dec. 28 in the Seton-LaSalle tournament. The 65 points was a season-low for the Golden Eagles, who rank third in the WPIAL by averaging 76 points per game. The Golden Eagles have won all but one of their section games by at least 15 points. Three players average 13 points or more for the Golden Eagles, who are coached by Gene Mercuri. Senior Rocco Contristano is scoring a team-high 23 points per game, followed by junior Cory Sevacko (17.9) and sophomore Ricky Rogers (13.3).
Thomas Jefferson doesn’t have such a glamorous overall record, but the Jaguars have caught fire the past few weeks. After starting the season 0-5, the Jaguars have won four of their past five games. The run includes a trio of section victories, each of which coming by at least 10 points. The Jaguars, coached by Dom DeCicco, average 51.2 points per game. Senior forward Joe Shaffer leads the Jaguars in scoring with a 12.7 point-per-game average.
