Boys' basketball game of the week
South Fayette at Ringgold, 7:30 p.m. Friday
Can anyone stop the Lions this school year? South Fayette's football team went undefeated through a WPIAL Class AA title and run all the to the PIAA championship game. Now, the school's boys' basketball team is unbeaten through 14 games heading into Tuesday's game against Washington.
Friday, the Lions (14-0, 7-0) can take another step toward winning the Section 5-AAA title when they play at Ringgold (12-3, 6-2 heading into a non-section game Wednesday against Mount Pleasant).
The teams' first meeting Jan. 11 was all South Fayette -- Mike Lamberti had 26 points and Nick Elder and Pat Zedreck 15 each as the Lions won, 80-56, at home. But the Rams are on a four-game winning streak.
The Rams' Andrew Stine had 17 of his team-high 21 points in the first half of that contest.
"They have a lot of offensive weapons," Lions coach Rich Bonnaure said. "And we know going down to their place is going to be tough. I thought they scored better than I thought agianst us last time with our defense. We've got to tighten up down there. We know going on the road, it's a big, big game. They're playing really well right now, and we certainly respect them."
