Neighbors Eden Christian and Vincentian to meet tonight in girls' basketball
Eden Christian Academy is a relatively-new school which is competing in the rough-and-tumble world of Section 2-A of the WPIAL which features the two finalists in last year's WPIAL Class A championship game, Vincentian Academy and North Catholic.
So, the schedule is going to be a competitive one. But rather than ease into the schedule, Eden Christian visits Avonworth at 7:30 p.m. today. On the face of it, the task appears to be a daunting one. But the game makes sense for a lot of reasons as Coach Steve Good's Warriors have their classes on a campus that's just 4.4 miles away from the Anteleopes' Joseph Lane campus in Ohio Township.
The two teams played last year, just before the Christmas break, and Avonworth rolled to a 60-15 victory. Eden Christian went 3-9 in its initial season in Section 2-A, and had an overall record of 10-12. Avonworth, which competes in Class AA, competed in both the WPIAL and PIAA Class AA tournament. The Antelopes began the season with a 57-18 victory over Brashear in the Brentwood Tournament. Eden Christian defeated Jefferson County Christian of Ohio 64-26 in its season opener.
