Girls Swimming: North Season Preview
North Allegheny once again rules the pool in the WPIAL Class AAA girls’ field. The Tigers graduated plenty of talent including Kally Vanderbilt, Erin Bishop and Allie Pennetti but they also return WPIAL gold medalists like Jacquelyn Du and Gabrielle Borza. The Tigers also have PIAA qualifiers sophomore Morgan Soulia, junior Jade Song and seniors Katerina Borisov and Arielle Krigger back.
North Allegheny’s section rival Pine-Richland should also be a formidable opponent with seniors Kristen and Allison Murslack returning. The twin sisters were two of the top swimmers in the WPIAL last season. Kristen Murslack won gold in the 200 individual medley and 100 breaststroke. Allison Murslack took fourth in the 500 freestyle. The Rams also have sophomore Siani Null and senior Lydia Sargent back. Null and Sargent teamed with the Murslack sisters in the fifth-place 200 freestyle relay at WPIALs last season.
Pine Richland won a gold in diving last season with Lauren Lamendola but she has graduated. The Rams could still be competitive in diving with senior Tiana Broen back. She took fourth last season at WPIALs. In the race for a WPIAL team championship it will be hard to compete with North Allegheny, the defending champions. But Pine Richland who finished fifth last season could make a run for a top three position this year.
