Wrestling: Five North Teams to Watch

Below is a thumbnail sketch on five North wrestling teams to watch.

HAMPTON - The Talbots have ten starters returning from a squad that posted a 22-2 record. The top returnee is Jake Hart (40-4 at 195), an Edinboro University recruit who placed second in the WPIAL and PIAA Class AAA tournaments last season. Other Hampton returnees who posted 20 or more wins last season are: Chris Olszewski (26-13 at 132), Kevin Synan (26-10 at 138), Zach Kocak (30-13 at 152), Collin Siford (33-8 at 160), Brandon Olszewski (28-15 at 170), and Noah Shulman (37-6 at 285).

NORTH ALLEGHENY - The Tigers placed second in the WPIAL last season and all but four starters are back. Coach Jamie Kyriazis has seven returnees who recorded 20 or more wins last season: Dom Forys (44-5 at 106), Blynn Shideler (20-15 at 120), Scott Stossel (29-13 at 120), Ben Schweiger (24-22 at 145), Alex DeCiantis (37-9 at 170), and Zach Smith (35-11 at 195). Forys placed third in the PIAA last season. DeCiantis was a PIAA qualifier.

BUTLER - The Golden Tornados lost five starters to graduation from a 19-6 squad, including four who had 50 or more career victories. Six returnees had 20 or more wins last season: Conor Foust (25-16 at 106), Blake Caudill (35-6 at 113), Korey Caudill (35-10 at 126), Will Bortmas (27-17 at 160), Ryan Hannon (26-11 at 170), and Zach Weaver (34-10 at 182). Blake Caudill was a PIAA qualifier.

NORTH HILLS - The Indians have all but two starters back from a team that finished with a 11-9 record last season. Four North Hills returnees recorded 30 or more wins last season: Tyler Walker (40-4 at 120), Drew Walker (34-7 at 126), Jonathan Avon (32-8 at 145), and Alen Turcinhodzic (36-5 at 220). Tyler Walker was a PIAA placewinner last year.

MARS - The Planets have all but one starter back from last year's squad, which posted a 13-6 record. Mars' top returnees are: Richie Boeh (24-6 at 113), Nathan Bair (16-14 at 170), Trey Turnblacer (16-12 at 220), Ryn McMahon (18-12 at 152), and James Flinn (18-10 at 145).
