May Shaler’s Schwartz be with you at the PIAA cross country meet

Written by Cara DeCarlo on .

Brianna Schwartz may be a sophomore, but she doesn’t forget what she sees in races and courses. To get ready for yesterday’s PIAA Championship meet, Schwartz ran in the rainy weather and had completed an interval workout last Sunday.

“She’s ready,” said Shaler head coach Mike Dusch. “She’s got the experience.”

When asked about some of his favorite postseason experiences with Schwartz, Dusch recalled the WPIAL meet. Schwartz had placed first in the girls’ Class AAA race with a time of 18:32.

“I’m just trying to think back to that day … it was just hot,” Dusch said about the unusual 83-degree weather. “That was the thing … a lot of kids were dropping, stopping because of the heat. As a coach, you’re always just kind of concerned, like, ‘Will that happen to any of my athletes?’ So we made sure they had enough to drink - that was probably the big thing.”

“It was nice for Bri,” Dusch continued. “I thought she ran a smart race. She went out with the other leaders and gradually pulled away.”

Schwartz’s results from the PIAA Championship (as well as all other teams’ and runners’ results) can be found at runhigh.com.
