Rick Davis' high school football notebook (North, Sept. 13)
"Butler savors impressive victory" - by Rick Davis.
"Butler Area coach Clyde Conti, a veteran of 40 years on the sidelines, isn't about to get all worked up over one victory. But, oh, how nice that victory was.
The Golden Tornado, for years the doormat in the WPIAL's Class AAAA ranks, lugged some dubious numbers into the 2012 season:
• 27 consecutive conference losses, 28 in a row after a Week 1 loss to Seneca Valley.
• An offense that scored 41 points in seven conference games last season.
• Winless in three of the past five seasons.
"This is my second year here and it's been tough," Conti said. "The thing that I appreciate the most -- most people bail today when things don't go well. I give a lot of credit to the kids. It has to be tough for the kids walking the hallways at school."
