Boys Golf: 2011 North Season Recap

Sports Town will review the 2011-12 school year during July. Today we will revisit the golf season.

North Allegheny qualified for the boys' Division I team championship, but the Tigers fell short, tallying 412 strokes to finish fifth in the six-team championship event. Upper St. Clair earned top honors with 383 strokes. In the Division II team event, Sewickley Academy tied with Burgettstown for second place with 406 strokes. Neshannock won the team title with 394 strokes.

In the boys WPIAL Division I individual tournament, Shady Side Academy senior Brendan Gramley finished in a three-way tie for 10th place with a five-over-par round of 77 and qualified for the Western regional tournament. Gramley tied with two others for 20th place with a seven-over-par round of 79 and went on to finish in a three-way tie for 34th place in the PIAA state championship with a two-round total of 162.

North Allegheny junior Kevin O'Brien finished 18th in the WPIAL Individual qualifier with a seven-over-par round of 79. O'Brien, however, missed the cut for the state tournament by three strokes as he finished with a 10-over-par round of 82 at the Western qualifier at Tom's Run.
