Latrobe's Will Wears (grandson of Arnold Palmer).
Central Catholic's boys golf team had a solid opportunity to advance in the postseason as the Vikings tied with Indiana at the WPIAL Division I team qualifier for first place with 405 strokes. But the Vikings' season came to an end as Upper St. Clair took team honors at the WPIAL team championship, advancing to the Western Regional team championship, and eventually placing second in the PIAA boys golf team championship.

The Vikings were the only Eastern area team to compete for team honors in Division I. No Eastern team advanced to the semifinals in Division II.

There were, however, some individual accolades. Penn Hills senior Evan Ruhling placed second in the WPIAL Division I championship with an even-par score of 72. The effort allowed Ruhling to advance to the Western Regional at Tom's Run. His season came to an end at the Western Regional where he finished in a two-way tie for 26th place with a nine-over-par round of 81.

Greater Latrobe's Will Wears and Ben Biss qualified for the PIAA tournament after playing well in the WPIAL Division I Individual Championships and the Western Regional qualifier tournaments.

Wears, a junior, finished in a four-way tie for 10th place in the WPIAL Individual Tournament with a five-over-par round of 77, and Biss wasn't far behind. He finished in a three-way tie for 16th place, three strokes behind Wears.

Both qualified for the state tournament with fine performances at the Western regional.

Wears finished in a three-way tie for eighth place with a three-over-par round of 75. Biss was again three strokes behind, shooting a 78 which put him in a four-way tie for 16th place with three seniors -- West Allegheny's Garrett Browning, Thomas Jefferson's Grant Newton and Indiana's Colton Wiggins.

The state tournament was  difficult experience for both golfers, more so for Biss.

Wears finished in a three-way tie for 26th place with a 36-hole total of 158, 16 strokes over par. Hampered by a stomach ailment, Biss had rounds of 88 and 87 to finish with a 36-hole total of 175.

Penn-Trafford senior Max Doran, who placed 14th in the WPIAL Division I individual championship with a six-over-par round of 78, ended his season at the Western regional where he finished in a four-way tie for 34th place with a 12-over-par scor of 84.
