Written by Chris Adamski on .

The only two teams in the WPIAL postseason that are from schools located within the borders of the city of Pittsburgh easily won first-round tournament matches Monday.

Central Catholic beat Kiski Area, 5-0, in a Class AAA first-round match and Winchester Thurston defeated Washington, 5-0, in a Class AA first-round match. The Vikings will meet North Allegheny 3:30 p.m. today in the Class AAA quarterfinals, while the Bears will play at Section 5-AA champion Bishop Canevin in a Class AA quarterfinal.

The East area's other WPIAL playoff teams all lost Monday. Greensburg Salem (3-2 to Indiana) and Burrell (5-0 to Hampton) lost Class AA matches and Penn-Trafford (4-1 to Bethel Park) and Latrobe (4-1 to Fox Chapel) joined Kiski Area as first-round losers from the East in Class AAA.

First singles player Chad Kissell won the only point for Latrobe.
