Party of five in Section 2-AAAA softball race
Franklin Regional, McKeesport and Plum are all in the mix to compete for a section title in Section 2-AAAA.
All three teams have five section wins. Defending section champion Franklin Regional (5-1) is ahead of Plum (5-2) and McKeesport (5-2) by a half of a game.
The Panthers edged the Mustang last season by one game to win the section title while McKeesport didn’t even make the playoffs. The Tigers who went 5-7 in the section last season have already matched their season win total from a year ago.
Shock waves were sent through the section when Franklin Regional lost 2-1 at Gateway in its second section game. The Panthers have a rematch with the Gators on April 16. The section will likely come down to Franklin Regional’s meeting against Plum on May 3, the section finale for both teams.
