Ambridge football team steals a win
The rebuilding program in the Ambridge School District is completed but the rebuilding of the football program is in full swing. The Bridgers traveled to New Castle’s Taggart Stadium Friday night and picked off a 17-6 win, thanks to a pair of picks.
Toby Notarianni picked off a Red Hurricane pass in the third quarter and returned it 20 yards to give Ambridge the lead. Joe Iorfido secured the lead with another interception in the fourth quarter.
The win was Ambridge’s first Parkway Conference win on the road since 2009 (Moon) and, with a 1-1 conference record, the Bridgers are now in the thick of the playoff race. To make a run at the playoffs, though, Ambridge will need to start winning at refurbished Moe Rubenstein Stadium. The last time Ambridge won a conference game at home was 2010 – also against Moon.
The Bridgers return to Rubenstein this Saturday for a homecoming game at 12:30 p.m. The opponent is Moon.
