Ambridge softball team is packing a punch
Ambridge enters the WPIAL Class AAA playoffs as the clear-cut favorite.
The Bridgers received the No. 1 overall seed from the WPIAL and they are the No. 1 ranked team by the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette. Ambridge reached the WPIAL final last season. This year it went 16-2.
The Bridgers lineup is loaded with potential. Junior third baseman Lexi Hilzendeger hit .382 this year with 11 extra base hits and 19 RBIs and 16 runs scored. Senior second baseman Nikee George hit .393 with 19 runs scored and 16 RBIs. Junior catcher Jaymee Humbert hit .418 with six doubles, 15 runs scored and 14 RBIs.
A pair of freshmen, center fielder Heather Mueller and first baseman Kelly Haslett had the top two averages on the team, batting .519 and .440 respectively.
Ambridge will play the winner of No. 8 Indiana and No. 9 Elizabeth Forward on Wednesday at Seneca Valley.
