Allderdice baseball season ends with Erie McDowell in PIAA Class AAAA baseball subregional
The final score between Erie McDowell and Allderdice was 9-2. Details of the game can be found in this May 31 report by Tom Reisenweber in the Erie-Times News.
According to the report, the Dragons (18-4) had a few wild pitches and seven errors. Erie McDowell (19-3) was able to take advantage of these factors.
The Trojans play next against WPIAL Class AAAA runner-up Mt. Lebanon.
Allderdice head coach Jon Parker did not feel the pitches and errors were related to nerves. He did mention that there was a big difference between the “emotional high” of the City Championship and the first game of the state playoffs, however.
The positive thing for the Allderdice baseball team is that an experienced group of 13 players will return. “The real core of our lineup returns,” said Parker. He noted that the Dragons would have to replace their number three and number eight hitters. He also said they would have to develop new pitching talent.
Moving into the WPIAL, the Dragons first goal is to make WPIAL playoffs. It’s a goal they’re excited about.
“We’ve had comments from our kids who’ve graduated and come back,” said Parker. “They said, ‘why hadn’t we done this when I was in school?’”
Parker said Allderdice would be in a section with Pine Richland, Shaler, Penn Hills, Woodland Hills, and Moon. Although the Dragons have played Pine Richland and Woodland Hills before, Parker felt it was difficult to know what it would mean for the future.
“We won’t know until we start playing games – our mindset is ‘Let’s see how we stack up and go out and play some games.”
