With every one of their teams' wins, North Allegheny quarterback Mack Leftwich and Clairton's Tyler Boyd keep moving up the WPIAL all-time lists.
In North Allegheny's 45-10 victory against Wilson in the PIAA Class AAAA semifinals Saturday, Leftwich became only the third quarterback in WPIAL history to pass for 3,000 yards in a season. A senior, Leftwich now has 3,132 yards (161 completions in 248 attempts).
North Allegheny plays Coatesville in the title game Saturday and Leftwich could move into second place on the all-time list. Seton-LaSalle's Bill Stull threw for 3,310 yards in 2004. The WPIAL single-season record is 3,726 yards by South Fayette's Christian Brumbaugh in 2010.
