Kiski Area repeats at Eastern Area Wrestling Tournament
Kiski Area easily defended its team title at the Eastern Area Wrestling Tournament, held Dec. 7-8 at Gateway High School. The Cavaliers had 10 wrestlers place among the top six in their weight class to accumulate 229.5 points.
Cole Landowski, Matt McCutcheon, and Shane Kuhn won titles for the Cavaliers. Landowski claimed his second title with a 6-2 win against Belle Vernon's Derek Verkleeren in the 145-pound final. McCutcheon advanced to the finals for the fourth time and captured his third title with a pin at 1:29 of Kittanning's Zac Croyle in the 195-pound final. Shane Kuhn won his second heavyweight title with a 0:52 pin of Kittanning's David Grafton.
Kittanning finished a distant second with 171 points. The Wildcats had ten place-winners and one champion. Jason Nolf captured his second straight title and was named Outstanding Wrestler after pinning Norwin's Joel Pezze at 1:27 of the 132-pound final.
Norwin was third in the team standings with 157.5 points. The Knights had nine place-winners and one champion. Heath Coles earned a third straight title appearance and claimed his second title with a 12-4 win over Jefferson-Morgan's Bill Bowlen at 160 pounds.
North Allegheny had a pair of repeat champions in Dom Forys and Jesse Rodgers. Forys advanced to the finals for the third straight year and captured his second title with a 14-5 domination of Kiski Area's Ryan Hardaway at 120 pounds. Rodgers won his second title with a 15-0 technical fall of Bethel Park's Paul Dunn at 138 pounds.
Jefferson-Morgan's Brendan Howard was also a repeat winner. Howard won his second straight 106-pound title with a 7-6 victory against Norwin's Kevin Miller.
