Butler outscores South Fayette at Char-Houston wrestling tournament
The team standings at the Chartiers-Houston Tournament couldn't have been any closer. The top four teams were separated by only 10.5 points, and the team title was decided by only 0.5 points.
Butler claimed the title with 185.5 points, while South Fayette finished second with 185. Peters Township, last year's champion, placed third with 180.5. Chartiers-Houston was fourht with 175.
Butler had eight wrestlers place among the top six in their weight class, including two champions. Connor Foust claimed the 113-pound weight class with a 2-0 win over South Fayette's Kevin Chaussard. Ryan Hannon won the 182-pound weight class with a 4-3 win against Moon's Patrick Barcaskey.
South Fayette had seven wrestlers earn place-winner status, including two champions. Seth Carr claimed the 120-pound title with a 9-1 win over Peters Township's Philip Mary. Mike Fetchet captured the 170-pound crown with a 5-2 win against Chartiers Valley's Noah Wilps.
Peters Township had eight placewinners and crowned two champions. Ty Buckiso won at 132 with a 12-5 victory over North Hills's Drew Walker. Italo Merante defeated South Park's Jake Wentzel, 5-4 in the 138-pound final.
Chartiers-Houston had four placewinners, including a pair of champions. Tanner Sutton won at 152 with a narrow 7-6 win against Freedom's Boe Bonzo. Garrett Vulcano needed overtime to defeat North Hills' Alen Turcinhodzic, 2-1, in the 195-pound final.
