Greensburg Central Catholic rallies, reaches title match

The Greensburg Central Catholic girls soccer team already knew how hard it was to beat a team four times in one season.

Tuesday, they finally did it.

Greensburg Central Catholic rallied from a two-goal deficit with 10 minutes left in regulation and outscored Shady Side Academy in a shootout to grab a 4-3 win in a PIAA Class A semifinal at Hampton.

The Centurions outscored the Indians, 5-4, in the shootout.

The Centurions (22-1) advanced to play District 12 champion Conwell-Egan (11-6-1).

Last season, the Centurions beat Springdale twice in the regular season and again in the WPIAL playoffs, but lost the fourth meeting in the PIAA semifinals.

The same course of events took place this season against Shady Side Academy (17-6-1), but the result was different.

Malea Fabean scored twice for the Centurions.

Fabean, Meg Shearson, Cassie Sauter, Frannie Crouse and Colby Crouse scored in the shootout.
Class AAA girls

• Peters Township 5, West Lawn Wilson 0: Veronica Latsko's two goals gave her 37 this season and propelled the two-time defending champion Indians (23-1) past District 3 third-place finisher Wilson (24-3-1) at Chambersburg. The WPIAL champions, who have won 14 games in a row, also got goals from Olivia Roberson, Laurel Carpenter and Alex Alavi. Peters Township next faces Cumberland Valley (22-2-1), which handed the Indians their only loss this season, 3-2, Sept. 29.
Class AA girls

• Moon 6, Mercyhurst Prep 1: Antonia Grese's hat trick helped Moon (23-2) roll to the comfortable win against District 10 champion Mercyhurst Prep (18-5) at Franklin. The Tigers, who lost in the WPIAL final, advanced to play District 12 winner Archbishop Wood (17-3-2) in the final. Chelsea Leipold, Christine Barthen and Taylor Dornin added Moon's other goals. Marissa Clough had three assists and Katie Valach chipped in two. The Tigers never have won a PIAA title but were the runner-up in 2005.
Class AAA boys

• Upper St. Clair 1, Delaware Valley 0: Kevin Muck scored 10 minutes into the game to push Upper St. Clair (21-2-1) into the championship for the second year in a row after defeating District 2 champion Delaware Valley (17-2) at Central Mountain. The Panthers will meet District 3 third-place team West Lawn Wilson (25-2-1) in the final. Wilson played two WPIAL teams this season, losing to Peters Township and beating Quaker Valley. Upper St. Clair lost to Conestoga, 1-0, in the final last season.
Class A boys

• Sewickley Academy 3, Biglerville 0: Jake Mulholland had a goal and an assist to lead the Panthers (21-1-1) to the win against District 3 runner-up Biglerville (17-8-1) at Hollidaysburg. Anthony Stinson and J.P. Bowell scored first-half goals for the Panthers, who will try to win their third PIAA title when they play District 2 champ Mountain View (17-0). Goalkeeper Hayden Moyer notched the shutout. The Panthers, who finished third in the WPIAL, have given up three goals in their past 13 games.
