Cross Country: 1442 runners deal with soggy course at PIAA meet

Written by Cara DeCarlo on .

The cross country state championship meet came and went. But due to Hurricane Sandy, some were afraid the meet wouldn’t happen as planned.

As of Tuesday, October 30, the rains had stopped. Mark Byers of the PIAA reported that course attendants had been proactive in putting stone down in areas commonly affected by excess rain.

Also as of Tuesday, there were 1442 runners who had obtained numbers to compete in the PIAA meet. Byers explained that some of those were alternates, but that 1442 was the total for registration.

Those 1442 runners spanned 522 teams. A total of six competitions took place: boys’ Classes A-AAA, as well as girls’ Classes A-AAA.
