STATE COLLEGE - The PIAA Boys Volleyball Tournament resumes today with the quarterfinal round robin in each classification.

Eight teams remain in each bracket. Two four-team round robin pools will be held in each class.

The Class AAA teams are:
POOL A - Central Dauphin (3-1), Parkland (11-2), Souderton (1-2), Norwin (7-2).
POOL B - Pennridge (1-1), Chambersburg (3-2), Emmaus (11-1), Lower Dauphin (3-4).

The Class AA teams are:
POOL A - York Suburban (3-1), Northeastern (3-3), Derry (7-2), Bethlehem Catholic (11-1).
POOL B - Ambridge (7-1), Dover (3-2), Cochranton (10-1), Holy Redeemer (2-1).

Both classes will crown a new champion, since Central York and Deer Lakes failed to make it back to the quarterfinal round robin. Central York didn't even qualify for the Class AAA bracket. Deer Lakes qualified in Class AA, but lost 3-2 to Cochranton in the first round.

In fact, only one of the eight teams that participated in last year's semifinals is still alive. All four semifinalists in Class AAA have been eliminated. The only semifinalist back from last year is Northeastern, the third place team from District 3.

The favorite in Class AAA was WPIAL champion North Allegheny, but the Tigers were upset 3-2 in the first round by Lower Dauphin, the fourth place finisher from District 3. North Allegheny was ranked No. 1 all season. Central Dauphin, the District 3 champion, is now the favorite.

The favorite in Class AA is York Suburban, the District 3 champion. York Suburban was ranked No. 1 the second half of the season. No. 2 Bethlehem Catholic and No. 3 Ambridge are also highly regarded in the Class AA bracket.

Ambridge, the WPIAL Class AA champion, is one of three WPIAL teams still remaining. Both WPIAL runners-up are also in the quarterfinals. Norwin is in the Class AAA bracket, while Derry is in the Class AA bracket.

The top two teams in each pool advance to Saturday's semifinals and finals.
