Lacrosse: This week's key games
With the final week of the regular season approaching, some ranked opponents as determined by Laxpower.com will be facing off this week.
Among girls teams, No. 1 Peters Township (12-2) visits No. 7 Seneca Valley (8-4) on Monday.
No. 2 Pine-Richland has a busy week. The 11-2 Rams host No. 6 Quaker Valley (9-4) on Tuesday and No. 4 Mt. Lebanon (11-4) on Wednesday.
No. 5 North Hills (15-0) will try for a second straight unbeaten season with two big games this week. The Indians visit No. 14 Hampton (11-3) on Monday before closing out the regular season against No. 9 Shaler Area (9-3) on Wednesday.
Ranked boys teams also have a busy week against other ranked opponents.
Seneca Valley, the top-ranked boys team according to Laxpower.com's Western Pennsylvania boys rankings with an overall record of 13-1, steps out of classification for a game on Thursday against visiting Butler Area (9-4), Laxpower.com's No. 8 team. Members of Division 2, Section 2, the Golden Tornado have a record of 9-4 and the game won't affect playoff seedings for either school. But the two schools are rivals based on their proximity, so it should be an exciting game.
It will be second ranked opponent Butler faces this week. The Golden Tornado meets No. 9 Hampton in a Division 2, Section 2 showdown on Wednesday. First place in the section is up for grabs as both teams have section records of 6-0 and are three games ahead of Indiana Shaler Area and Erie-McDowell, who shard third place with 3-3 records.
No. 2 Mt. Lebanon should have some excitement of its own as the 9-3 Blue Devils visit archrival Upper St. Clair, which is ranked No. 4 and has a record of 11-4. The game closes out the season for both teams.
But that game won't be the only big challenge for the Panthers. On Monday, Upper St. Clair visits No. 7 North Allegheny, which enters the game with a 9-6 record. The game with North Allegheny won't affect Upper St. Clair's playoff hopes as the teams play in different sections. It is, however, a different story against Mt. Lebanon. The Blue Devils lead the section with a 5-0 record. Upper St. Clair and Sewickley Academy share second place with 4-1 marks.
No. 6 Peters Township (9-5) hosts No. 7 North Allegheny (9-6) on Friday. This game is for bragging rights as it is a non-section contest. It will be the Tigers second game against as a ranked opponent as they will host No. 4 Upper St. Clair (11-4) on Monday.
