Aliquippa football team's offense still hasn't peaked
Usually by the time a team reaches the PIAA playoffs, defenses are solid enough that teams can’t reach their scoring averages – Erie Cathedral Prep averaged over 50 before West Allegheny held it to 27. Aliquippa, though, is far from any year’s usual team.
The Quips actually increased their scoring average in their 51-15 PIAA win over Karns City and that’s not easy because the Quips entered the game averaging 50.6 points per game. Already the highest scoring team in Aliquippa history, the Quips rolled up 486 yards against the Gremlins and had five running backs rush for 69 yards or more.
Dravon Henry rushed for 120 yards on just five carries and has 1,567 yards this year, averaging 10.8 yards per carry. Terry Swanson rushed for 81 yards on just eight carries and now has 1,299 yards and an average of 11.6 yards per carry. Each scored twice and the other three runners with over 69 yards all scored once – quarterback Malik Shegog, freshman Kaezon Pugh, and Jyier Turner who scored on a 69-yard run on 3rd down and 17.
