Hempfield junior Abbie Bache made it back-to-back years of WPIAL gold in the rifle individual championships with her score of 200-19X with eight center shots on Thursday afternoon at the Dormont/Mount Lebanon Sportsmen’s Club in Canonsburg.

They might have to change the name of the club to Sportswomen’s Club after Bache became the second consecutive Lady Spartan to take home the individual title. Bache can now add the WPIAL individual title to her WPIAL team title she won the prior week with Hempfield.

Bache outgunned Trinity’s Kayla Huffman and McGuffey’s Courtney Stiles who tied with a 200-19x with five center shots each. Huffman won the tiebreaker to take home the silver while Stiles earned the bronze.

Besides Bache’s gold medal performance, Hempfield was well represented at the event. The Spartans will send four shooters to states. Keegan Miller placed fifth (200-18x) while Kelly O’Neill placed eighth (200-17x) and Alex Thomas finished 12th (200-17x).

The other schools with multiple state championships qualifiers were Trinity (Huffman and Tyler James Miller), Plum (Melissa LeClair and Scott Kolar), McGuffey (Stiles and Casadi Stainbruck) and Avella (Brent Morgan and Cassandra Hamilton). Woodland Hills’ Miguel Breight and Indiana’s Brittany Dillen also qualified for the state championships.
