Written by Drew Karpen on .

Greensburg Salem’s Alec Shaw has elected to continue his athletic career in the comfort of his own backyard. Shaw committed to Seton Hill University, which is 2.9 miles away from Greensburg Salem High School.

Shaw is a wrestling and baseball star for the Golden Lions, but his success didn’t come without some bumps in the road.

In his wrestling career, Shaw missed his freshman year and a majority of his junior season due to an elbow injury. He was able to bounce back with a strong senior campaign, finishing sixth at the PIAA championships at 170 pounds.

He finished the year 40-5. He also won his first title at the Westmoreland County Coaches’ Association wrestling tournament and wrestled for Team WPIAL against Team Georgia at the Pittsburgh Wrestling Classic.

Shaw is also a pitcher for the Golden Lions baseball team, which stands at 4-3 overall and 3-3 in Class 4A Section 1.

Shaw played on the football team for three years, but elected to focus on wrestling and baseball his senior season.
