Last season as a freshman, Alyvia Kluska made a run to the WPIAL Class AA singles final, finishing second to Quaker Valley’s Spencer Caravaggio, which qualified Kluska for the state tournament.
This season, Kluska lost in the semifinals to Sewickley Academy’s Samantha Gohh. Kluska still had a chance to qualify for the state tournament by winning the consolation match, but she was slated to face her younger sister, freshman Michaela Kluska.
Michaela Kluska beat her sister in three sets the week before in the section singles final to earn the WPIAL’s top seed, but lost to Sewickley’s Sydney Miggantz in the semifinals to set up the all-Kluska consolation match with the PIAA berth on the line.
But, the Kluskas decided not to play the match. Instead, Alyvia forfeited to Michaela, which will send Michaela to Hershey on Nov. 1 for the PIAA Class AA singles tournament.
