Greensburg Central Catholic ran 1-2-2 half court trap to victory over Beaver Falls

Written by Cara De Carlo on .

“We were trying to stay calm,” recalled Greensburg Central Catholic head coach Chris Kallock. The Centurions had been down 11 at the half in their first-round game against Beaver falls.

“We did have time,” he said. “We had a lot of time-outs, we had all five going into the fourth. We were just hoping that changing up defenses we’d find one that would work.”

Greensburg had cycled through a number of defenses against Beaver Falls. The Centurions staple had been the half-court man-to-man, but the Tigers were blowing past it.

“We went to foul line over 25 times, so we had to come out and trap,” said Kallock.

The Centurions’ point guard had four fouls going into the fourth, but the team played it safe with her.
“She did a good job,” said Kallock. “[Carolyn] Appleby didn’t do anything silly.”
