Centurions’ head coach Chris Kallock told Sports Town that the Jeannette players had already been texting back and forth with Greensburg. The student-athletes are excited about Thursday, when Greensburg will rematch Jeannette. This time, it’s on Greensburg’s home court.
“As much as I try to make it seem like it’s just another section game, the kids don’t buy it,” said Kallock. “They know it’s special.”
Many of Greensburg’s current players are sophomores who are in their first year of varsity experience. “The gym was packed at Jeannette,” said Kallock. “We played in front of far more people there. Some of my kids hadn’t experienced that.” Kallock hadn’t either – he is in his first year as the head coach at Greensburg.
One thing that’s evident from the excitement and the texts is how much the Greensburg and Jeannette programs respect each other. During Greensburg’s Monday (January 28) win over Riverview, the Jayhawks’ assistant coach attended the game to scout.
Greensburg closed out last week with Springdale and East Allegheny. All game results as well as current records can be found on the WPIAL 2012-13 girls’ basketball page at Post-Gazette NOW.
“We’re looking forward to getting Jeannette at our place,” said Kallock. “I’d be lying if I said it was just another game.”
