Field Hockey: Ellis ousted in first round of PIAA tournament

Written by Joe Koch on .

The Ellis School won its second WPIAL title in a row and seventh overall with a 3-1 victory over Shady Side Academy in the WPIAL 1A championship game. That win vaulted the Tigers into a PIAA 1A first-round game against the perennially competitive Thunder from Belleville Mennonite.

Played at Bald Eagle Area High School this past Tuesday, the game was a very competitive one, but the Tigers came up a bit short as Belleville Mennonite advanced to the second round with a 2-1 victory over Ellis.

Ellis finished in a first-place tie with Shady Side Academy as each team had a section record of 10-1-1. Ellis should be pretty solid next season as eight of the team's starters return.
