Written by Ryan Riordan on .

In just his third start in goal for Deer Lakes, Jonathan Lang knocked off one of the better teams in Class A.

The sophomore netminder stopped 18 of the 19 shots he faced to help the Lancers (7-11-1) upset Westmont Hilltop (10-6-1), 2-1, Monday night.

Lang had never played goaltender before January, with his first game coming on Jan. 21 in a 11-3 win against Bishop McCort. Lang also started against Freeport, stopping 25-of-30 shots in a 5-3 loss.

“Within a year, he’s going to be rock solid,” Deer Lakes coach Todd Luniewski. “He’s going to turn into a great asset. I know he will. He’s athletic and highly competitive.”
