Cornell boys' basketball team works overtime for the holidays

Cornell played just two games over the holidays at the Neighborhood Academy Snowflake Shootout but it must have seemed like more as the Raiders extended both games to overtime.

On the first night, the Raiders defeated host Neighborhood Academy 55-53 as Dane Jackson exploded for 33 points. The following night, Cornell played New Brighton, who had upset Class AAAA Woodland Hills the first night, and the Raiders fell to the Lions in triple overtime.

Against New Brighton, Jackson scored 22 and Dan Weryha added 13 but the Raiders eventually ran out of gas against a deeper New Brighton squad.

Cornell enters section play with a record of just 2-6 but the exhibition schedule has been a challenging one, including Class AAA Central Valley, and Class AA Quaker Valley, Northgate, Avonworth, Burgettstown, and New Brighton.
Whether that challenging schedule will pay off will be answered quickly as the Raiders open Section 1-A play at Lincoln Park.
