Chartiers-Houston senior pitcher Kayla Briggs was expected to be one of the top pitchers in the WPIAL this season.
As a junior she helped lead the Buccaneers to the WPIAL Class A championship. But this season her team would be playing in Class AA and besides, regardless of classification, past success is no guarantee to future success.
But Briggs has been successful, very successful. Actually, Briggs has been downright dominant and nearly perfect.
Through April 21 Briggs was 11-0. Only Carmichaels’ Erica Burns (13-1) had more wins than Briggs and nobody else in the WPIAL has double-digit wins without a loss. Briggs also had 116 strikeouts, third most in the WPIAL and most in Class AA.
Briggs is a big reason why Chartiers-Houston is still chasing a perfect season. Through 13 games the Buccaneers were 13-0 including 10-0 in Class AA Section 2. Briggs and Chartiers-Houston return to action Tuesday when it hosts Beth-Center at 4 p.m.
