Baseball: Carlynton making big turnaround

Written by staff reports on .

Last season, Carlynton had just a 4-15 record and that was an improvement over the previous two years when the Cougars won three games each season. The last time Carlynton had a winning season was 2011 when it won the section.

Those winning days, though, are returning as the Cougars are off to an 9-1 start this season, 4-1 in Class 2A Section 3. Carlynton has ridden the arms of a pair of junior pitchers in Zach Oddi and Nathan Bickus. Both have won three games and, on the Cougars' current five game winning streak, Carlynton has allowed a total of six runs.

The only loss this season has come to undefeated Serra Catholic, 5-1, two weeks ago. That has been the only game this season Carlynton has allowed more than three runs. It's not that the Cougars have to hold their opponents down – the offense has scored 91 runs in the eight wins and has scored at least seven in each win.
