Lauren Waller has enjoyed a stellar career since it began as a freshman at Shady Side Academy in 2011. That year, she was part of a team that won the Division I state girls championship.

Since she transferred to Canon-McMillan High prior to her sophomore year, Waller has enjoyed a fine run of success while competing for the boys golf team at the school as Canon-McMillan does not field a girls golf team.

This year, Waller won both the WPIAL and PIAA Western Regional golf championships. competing against girls in the postseason. But she will have to wait one more year if she hopes to attain glory on a statewide honor.

At this year's PIAA Class AAA individual girls championship at York's Heritage Hills Resort, Waller finished in a third-place tie with Council Rock senior Erica Hurr. Both finished with a 7-over-par score of 151, just three strokes off the winning score of 4-over-par registered by Mount St. Joseph junior Isabella Dilisio. Placing second was another junior, Jackie Rogowicz of Pennsbury. Waller was the only girl from the state's Western region to earn all-state honors.

Canon-McMillan junior Lauren Waller relishes the opportunity of competing against her peers from neighboring regions.

After capturing the WPIAL Class AAA girls golf championship earlier this month at Hill Crest Country Club with a 3-over-par round of 75, Waller traveled to Blairsville and won her second straight PIAA Class AAA Western Regional Championship at Tom's Run Golf Course.

Waller's 4-over-par round of 76 was two strokes better than the impressive round of 78 turned in by Peters Township freshman Mia Kness.

Only six golfers qualified for the Class AAA girls state tournament at Heritage Hills Golf Course. What's impressive is that all six qualifiers are from the WPIAL.
