Girls Soccer: South Feature Athlete - Canon-McMillan’s Addie Roman

Written by Brad Everett on .

Name: Addie Roman
School: Canon-McMillan
Grade: 10
Sport: Girls Soccer
Position: Forward

Background: Roman is only a sophomore, but it's hard to imagine she'll score a goal in her high school career bigger than the one she scored last Saturday. Roman's goal 15:35 into overtime gave Canon-McMillan a 1-0 win against Central Bucks South in the PIAA Class 4A championship at Hersheypark Stadium. It was the first PIAA title for Canon-McMillan, which finished the season 22-1-1. The Big Macs had lost in the final two years earlier. It wasn't the first time Roman scored a big goal this postseason. Her goal in double overtime propelled the Big Macs to a 2-1 win against Mt. Lebanon in the WPIAL semifinals. Roman scored twice in a 4-1 win against Cumberland Valley in the PIAA semifinals.

Coach Dave Derrico said: "Addie fits into our team character very well. She's very determined. She's tenacious. She's not a whimp. She's like a bull in a china shop. She just goes all out. ... She really starting shining in the playoffs. I think the turning point was getting that goal against Mt. Lebanon in the semifinals. She stepped up big time. She committed herself at some point in the season and said 'I'm going to help this team get to states.' They had some unfinished business in Hershey. She's a strong player."
